My dentures don’t fit like they used to, what should I do?

Denture relines in winnipeg

At some point you’ll need to reline your Winnipeg dentures.  Dentures should be relined if they become loose, however it’s also important to remember that most dentures are designed to last between 3 to 8 years. The wear and tear on your dentures, shrinking of your jaw bone, and the general aesthetics of the denture are the main reasons your should consider having your dentures checked and relined regularly.

Rather than visit a denturist to address these issues, some patients prefer to wear denture adhesives to keep their denture stable. The issue with this temporary solution is that a loose denture can cause damage to your gums and in the case of partial dentures, your adjacent teeth. In severe cases, surgical removal of damaged tissue and/ or extraction of teeth may be required as part of a long term treatment to rehabilitate your oral health.

How do you know when it’s time for a reline?

Your local denturist will help you decide if it’s a reline or replacement you require. Wearing dentures that don’t fit properly aren’t just uncomfortable, they may cause sore spots from your gums rubbing on the acrylic which in turn can cause infection.

If you have been experiencing sore spots and have been continually wearing poorly fitted dentures, contact your local denturist for a check up and discuss relining or replacing your dentures. The last thing you want is to have ill fitting dentures that affect your overall health.
